Geer Street Garden Glee!

Photo by Girls with Guts Blog

Vendor Friday will be focused on our favorite subject today: FOOD! There are more than a few delicious places to eat around this town. Check out our Favorite Places in Durham to learn more about some great eats, but one of our new obsessions is Geer Street Garden! Nestled in the hip part of downtown Durham, Geer Street Garden was formerly a filling station and has been renovated into a casual, yet stylish restaurant spot. They have home made cocktails that range from hard hitting liquor drinks to light and delicious Pinot Grigios, but the food is the main event.  The upscale local southern cooking is absolute heaven!

Deanna is crazy about the Fried Chicken & Arugula Salad with Hard-boiled Egg, Parmesan & Ranch Dressing as well as the INFAMOUS "Pile" that includes fried chicken, french fries, jalapenos, bacon, melted cheddar cheese with gravy and 2 sauces. The bratwurst and pimiento cheese sandwich is also Inn favorites! To top it off, you can get the banana pudding or a "loco pop shot". This shot consists of any type of liquor and a popsicle of your choice to dunk! It was quite the hit this summer.

Geer Street Garden has a great outdoor space to dine as well as cozy booths indoors. It is a great spot to gather friends and hang out and catch up. In fact,  I (Samantha) will be have a group of 6 heading there for a Friday evening dinner.  Maybe we will walk on over to Motorco or grab a beer at Fullsteam following our shared "Pile" and scrumptious sandwiches!

If you haven't checked it out, it is a new GO TO spot for the Inn and most Durhamites....

It's All in the Details!

Creative Invitation for Courtney & Zandy's Rehearsal Dinner at Tobacco Road
While we do have a number of actual weddings at the Inn. We also host several wedding parties at the Inn that have a large ceremony and reception (100+) at a different venue, but decide to rent the entire Inn for their close family and friends to spend some time together during the downtime of the weekend. This past weekend, Courtney and Zandy had an incredible ceremony and reception at the beautiful Bay 7.  However, they also had their families stay with us at the Inn. It was a perfect setting for them.

The whole group was able to relax before and after at the Inn. They utilized the Brodie Duke Hall as a hospitality suite that provided home made snacks, beer, wine, board games and the tvs were tuned into college football games.  They also displayed the rehearsal dinner invitation (above) and the wedding invitation (below). They included a mad libs RSVP card and we displayed these along the banister of the grand staircase of the Inn. Guests had a great time reading the suggested song requests for the reception!

To top it all off, Zandy (the groom) bought large pumpkins for all 17 rooms and assigned each room by writing their names on the pumpkin. They also added a North Carolina themed welcome bag with Carolina Popcorn Shoppe Caramel Corn, Pumpkin Spice Moravian Cookies, Burt's Bees Chapstick and Local Made Soap.

We could not be happier for Zandy & Courtney!
We hope you and your families visit us again soon!

Tre Bella is Très Chic...

As a proud small business in Durham, we think it is important to share with you some of the other wonderful businesses that are flourishing right under our noses.  On Fridays, we plan to highlight a vendor or business that we work with that really rocks our socks.

The three sisters of Tre Bella are just down the road from us. Not only do they create the most amazing floral arrangements, but they also have a bridal gown boutique boasting talented designers from around the world.

They have been to the Inn numerous times for all types of events. Take a look at a few of their arrangements at the Inn:

An arrangement for the front mirror....

A bridal bouquet and boutonniere in the sun room....

Florals around the cake table in the private dining room...

Not only is Tre Bella incredibly talented, they are three nicest people! Easy to work with and excited about what they do, it is great to call them friends!

Festive Fall Wedding!

Our First Dining Room Ceremony
This lovely Friday evening ceremony and reception started out as an elopement in our sunporch. As the date got closer, more and more people wanted to attend Brittany & Jody's nuptials so we decided to move it to a larger space in the Inn.

This was our first attempt at a ceremony in the dining room! The florist arranged incredibly cute pumpkins for aisle markers and created lovely lighting with cylinder vases and candles. The couple focused on East Carolina University purple as their main color scheme with white accents. The ceremony began around sunset and the dining room was full of music provided by Elegant Violin.

The reception began as Extravagant Fare passed stuffed mushrooms and had a gorgeous cheese plate spread with a vegetable crudite. The savory bites were complimented by sweets made by the the bride's Italian grandmother. The desserts included hand dipped caramel apples and chocolate salami! It was such an intimate setting with unique and sentimental details.  It was a perfect evening for the happy couple.

The bride & groom took off early the next morning for their tropical honeymoon.

Congrats to Brittany & Jody!

Colin's Big Birthday Burger Bash!

Birthday Quote of the Day: " I'm 33...that's basically being dead anyway"
While Colin is a bit grumpy to be tallying his years, we still like to celebrate everyone's birthday. His lunch of choice will be the delicious Only Burger and he got to sleep in an extra 45 minutes! We hope this rain clears so he is able to head out for his bike ride as well!

If you get a chance, feel free to wish him a happy birthday on

Inkspot Crow Highlights Alex & Alyssa

We know it is only Friday, but with all the weddings we have the next few months we wanted to share Alyssa & Alex's highlights from fabulous Inkspot Crow. This husband and wife cinematography team is absolutely phenomenal. They make sure to delve into not only the details of the wedding, but the story behind their relationship.  It is truly an art to capture special moments without interrupting them and Inkspot Crow does that with ease. I would recommend them to a bride, a couple that wants to capture their love story or even a business that is looking to expand their marketing materials.

This is one of our favorite vendors right now, but stay tuned for some of our other favorite local businesses and services!

Enough already...Enjoy Alyssa  & Alex's Wedding Day!

October Weddings!

Kristen & Timothy's Room Assignment List
We had our first wedding of October this past weekend! It was a lovely affair with the ceremony and reception being held at the Inn. It is always fun to see what details a bride will bring to personalize their wedding.  My favorite accent was the room assignment board they put at our registration table.  Each room was assigned and was adorned with a "key" for their room. This was also a great way for all of the guests to know where other guests were staying for the weekend.

What inspires me about October is the fall foliage and, of course, pumpkins. One of my all time favorite events I have seen in the past several years is a rehearsal dinner created by Soiree by Tara Guerard and photographed by Liz Banfield in Charleston. Being a fellow College of Charleston graduate, I follow Tara's  work closely! Check out a little Halloween inspiration here. I would love to see some gorgeous arrangements in the Main Dining Room of the Inn with some square vases and silver pumpkins inside!

Happy October & Congrats to Kristen & Timothy!
