The Official KDI Bucket List of 2013

As we conclude another successful year at the Inn, we love to reflect on the many accomplishments we have had in both our professional and personal lives. This year, we booked a record amount of weddings, lengthened our breakfast menu and switched Mac Minis to iPads. Lots of positive change at the Inn, while many of our staff members did the diet for our own personal goals. One has bulked up from weight lifting, one has conquered pilates and another is ready to tackle a marathon at the end of January!

For a bit more fun, we thought we would share some of our personal 2013 goals from a few of our staff members:

Chase says:
Cut back on soda, cigarettes and work out!

Judy says:

Go to night school & lose a little weight (not needed!!),
Deanna says:

Have my breakfast in the NY Post again (or another fab publication)!

 Colin says:

Take a REAL vacation!
Kimi says:
Go to school!

We have some great goals this year! What is on your Bucket List? Whether it is large or small, we wish you a happy New Year! 2013 is sure to be great!

'Tis the Season for Engagements!

With several of my close friends getting engaged (3 this week!), it seems that this is truly the season of love and joy! We hope that all the newly engaged couples enjoy the holiday season with friends and family to celebrate and revel in the moment. After all the candy canes have been consumed and the last bit of wrapping paper has been cleaned up, you may need to start thinking about the planning process.

As a venue, we are one of the first stops for excited couples! It is the best to hear about their story, where they met, the proposal and the plans for the wedding. Some couples know exactly what they want and others feel a bit lost in all the details, so here are a couple tips when meeting with a venue representative to keep you on the right path.

1) Have your top three priorities for your wedding. If you want an amazing venue or a rad DJ or delicious cake, make sure you know what is most important to you as a couple.

2) Have a budget. Once you know the top three priorities, make sure you apply a little extra money to the important aspects you want. Then estimate about how much will go to the remainder of the wedding.

3) Have a date (with several back ups). If you have a few dates that will work for you, it is nice to have a bit of flexibility if you have found a great venue. We have many brides that love the Inn and will change to a different month just to host their wedding here! If you have a "must have" date and it is a priority, then stick to your guns and find a venue that has the date available.

4) Have an approximate guest count. With that information, the venue representative can give you a good idea on how the flow of your wedding. This way you can visualize your special day!

5) Ask questions! Don't be afraid to ask anything! The venue is an extremely important part of the day. You want to feel comfortable about all aspects of the location, the service and the set up.

Happy Holidays & Happy Venue Searching!

Vendor Highlight: Aesthetic Images

It seems like ages ago that the talented Mr. Jon Eric Johnson from Aesthetic Images came to the Inn to shoot the Durham Debutantes last July! It was lovely seeing all of the young ladies in their cotillion gowns prancing around the Inn and taking photos that they will have forever.

Not only did Jon Eric capture the images of the debutantes, but he was kind enough to snap several photos of the Inn and did a quick photo shoot to update Colin and Deanna's head shots! The images are amazing and we can not say enough wonderful things about the team at Aesthetic Images Photography. They are professional, hard working, friendly and make you feel comfortable.

We look forward to hosting the Durham Debutante Photo Preview Party in the beginning of 2013!

Here are some of the images from the shoot:

 Aren't they adorable?!

A True Durham Wedding: Samira & Greg

While we love all of our couples that choose to get married at the Inn, Samira and Greg truly stole our hearts! Not only are they super sweet & down to earth, but they LOVE Durham and incorporated so many amazing local vendors and friends to make their day special. The photographer, Allie Mullins, did an amazing job capturing all the details and coveted moments, so peruse at your leisure!
Samira & Greg signage in front of the Inn welcomed guests!

Samira rocked an adorable white frock for her wedding day attire!

Samira getting ready in the Trinity suite with friends and her mother.

Their first look. This is too sweet for words.

The ceremony was held at a nearby park. Wedding Coordinator, Amanda Scott of A Swanky Affair (another Durham friend) helped plan and create the perfect ceremony & reception!

The Officiant was a good friend and owner of the Cookery, Nick!

The couple utilized our front porch for cocktails. Sympathy from the Deli cooked a whole pig for the main course while Parker + Otis made all the delicious sides and desserts for the reception.

The couple making a toast to their guests!

As night fell, guests dined both in and outside. We adore the farm tables from APR.

Bluebird Meadows (another Durham friend of the couple) created AMAZING bouquets and arrangements!

The first dance in the Parlor.

Later in the evening, all danced the night away in Brodie Duke Hall.

Samira & Greg: Congrats! It was truly a perfect day! We hope to see you on your anniversary!
